BORDERLESS MIGRANTS - 2021

I confini politici sono una invenzione umana.

Raising a wall serves to protect, to understand how far a law, a statistic or a property is valid. A border tries to give determination to an indeterminate surface. The border serves to articulate the pronouns “we” and “you” and to look beyond with distraction. There was a moment, a brief instant, when another human invention, the net, seemed to be able to make the wall obsolete. But, for many reasons, after the shock the wall rose and became even thicker. And the neighbor was considered responsible, the real culprit. All this happens with feet on the ground.

But birds have no imagination. They soar, they migrate, they land and they keep going without being able to see the boundaries.

Since 2003, Coelmo has celebrated human ingenuity, in the arts and technology, through its historic calendars. With the “Borderless Migrants” edition, we imagined flying a little higher still.
