Cities and Memories - 2016

Marta Vilarinho de Freitas is a Portuguese architect who graduated from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto in 2009.

Drawing has always been one of his passions, and he has developed a project called “Cities and Memories – Architecture and Cities” through a series of illustrations that focus on universal architecture and the fantasy world it can create.

Her drawings define space, making architecture the protagonist. She draws on architectural design and its unique, distinctive, and extremely fascinating universe. Her illustrations are a personal vision of cities, a journey through architectural imagination. “Architecture and the City” allows us to explore the world through drawing, which tells the story of these lines, these cities, and everyday life in each of them. Marta explores detail, the contrast between fantasy and reality, and the dichotomy between past and present. She promotes its illusory character and fantasy, combining architectural precision, construction, and the black-and-white world, albeit sometimes immersed in color. She elaborates in detail all the characteristics of each drawing and each city, meticulously reporting the details that gradually fill and represent them.
